Day 14

Today, all of us had to wake up exceptionally early as we had a China history lesson about the Yellow Crane tower at 8.15am. Dragged ourselves out of bed and prepared for a new day. The first lesson past quickly and before we knew it, we were on the bus to visit the Yellow Crane tower. Excited and thrilled on what we will be going to see. It took us a mere twenty minutes to reach our destination as it was not that far from the campus. Once there, everyone whipped out their cameras and started clicking away. We then entered the tower and walked up five storeys. The scenery from each storey was magnificent. However, the distant background was slightly misty and my camera could not capture the nice view. When walking past souvenirs shop, everyone was generous in their spending and started buying various stuffs from the shops. This includes, your name being craved on a chop, miniature metal plate and a porcelain figure which urinates or makes bird chipping noises which being filled with hot water. It is quite innovative. After that, we were led to nearby a restaurant whereby Mr Zhu and the others ordered our food. The first dish was corn and the second being chicken. When the third dish arrived, everyone could not make out what it was. It was only when Hao Bin tried the meat then we knew what it was. It was actually frog meat. Well, this dish is a little foreign to me as I do not eat frogs even though the dish is available in Singapore. Frankly speaking, I did not really enjoyed this lunch as I felt that none of the food was up to my likings. Thankfully, I am not a picky eater and I managed to eat and keep my stomach full. After lunch, we were sent back to our hostel. It was very tiring and everyone slept in the bus while on the way back. Back at the hostel, I carried my laptop and went to block 7 with Peter, Jonathan and Chee to use the internet as the internet at our area had been down. Basically, I was checking emails and other important stuffs. We then went to the Halal restaurant to have our dinner. After that, Peter, Jonathan and I went to trim our hair. So we went to a saloon which was nearby the restaurant. The price for a trim was cheap as it cost 8RMB. The staffs were very friendly, probably because they knew that we were foreigners. We were treated with very good service. Before cutting our hair, we were given a very thorough scrub and wash. While trimming our hair, we were bombard with questions from the staffs. They seemed to be very interested and curious about the Singapore culture. Many of them told me that they went to Malaysia for hair-cut training before going back to China, so some were able to speak Malay. After finishing our hair-cut, we were bade farewell. Even though, the haircut was not up to my standard, I was quite satisfied by the service we were given. We then headed back to hostel.
