Day 1

I woke up at 4.30am, prepared myself and had a final check on my luggage to see if I have left out anything. After much last minute panicking, I finally left my house at 5.15am. My parents drove me to the airport. As it was early in the morning, the expressway was smooth and the journey from my home to the airport took merely half an hour. It is considered very fast for me as I lived in the upper northern west region of Singapore and having to travel across to the east would take an hour or two. I reached the airport at 5.45am, the first person I saw was my group leader Chau Liang. I stood at a side with my parents who were giving me some last minute advice and talk. Within an hour, everyone was present already and my lecturer-in-charge Dr Zhu helped us register to check-in our luggage. The most heartbreaking part was probably at the departure entrance where all the students bade farewell to their respective parents. We wasted no time in walking to our gate C16 where we boarded our flight China Southern Airline CZ352. It was hectic in the cabin as everyone was trying to put their hand-carried bags into the overhead compartment, it took a while before everyone finally settled down. The air traffic was surprisingly quick and everyone gave a quick cheer when the aircraft went airborne. I looked through the window from my left and Singapore became smaller and smaller as the aircraft increased altitude. I quickly turned on my PSP(Playstation Portable) and listened to my favourite tunes. I was on the verge of sleeping when the air stewardess came pushing the trolley-cart down the aisle, we were served a small packet of peanuts and a cup of orange juice. As I was feeling hungry, I gobbled up the food in no time. After that came the choice of meal, we were given two choices “Hor Fun” or “Rice”. I chose rice of course. I fell into a short nap after eating. It was 2 hours later when I suddenly woke up and found out that another of my group leader Agnes took a candid shot of me and Chau Liang sleeping. I could not sleep again after that. I looked out of the window again and saw land with many agriculture fields. I realized that we have reached Guangdong Airport. We touched down at the airport and waited for 2 hours for our domestic flight to Wuhan. Meanwhile, we had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. I ordered Spicy chicken and vegetables. It tasted quite alright to me although it was a little oily and salty. The only person who cannot get used to the Chinese food is probably Ram, do not blame him as he is used to taking Indian food. After eating, we boarded our flight and flew to Wuhan which is one hour and forty-five minutes away. Feeling tired and lethargic I slept again. This time, I was being awakened by the terrible turbulence that the aircraft was experiencing. I had this feeling, well, shall not go further into it as I am sure you will know what I am going to say. For the next 10 minutes, I sat cautiously in my seat. This is probably shocking but my friend Ram told me that he actually loved the feeling of turbulence. We reached Wuhan around evening, boarded a bus which took us to the Wuhan University campus in one hour and forty-five minutes. I passed the time quickly by playing some card games in the bus with my classmates. Upon reaching the campus, we were brought to our respectively hostel. After bringing our bags up to our rooms, we had to help the girls with their luggage to their hostel. Everyone was brought to have a sumptuous dinner at the campus restaurant which is located above the canteen, we each paid 18RMB each for dinner. After that, we went back to our hostel for the night.
