Day 3

The group arranged to meet up at 12.30pm at the lobby for today, so everyone laze around in the morning as we had no activities for the day. Me and my roommate Ram cooked instant noodles before leaving as we were starving. After meeting up, we head down to the main road. We split up into groups and head in different directions as it was very difficult to control everybody if were to do shopping together. First of all in my group, we went to try a local fast-food chain equivalent to KFC. Well, prices were much cheaper than of KFC and McDonalds. I had a set meal for 6RMB which I personally think that it was quite worth it. My group walked about and felt that there was nothing much to do so we head to the supermarket to buy groceries again. We were trying to save as much money as possible as it was only the third day of the trip and we were already spending too much. Met up with the rest at the gate and found out that my other classmates had bough chocolates for 450RMB!!! Well, could not blame as they said that the store did not show the price of the chocolate correctly and the language barrier between they and the locals made it worse. When everything was done, we went back to our hostel and arranged to play soccer at the girl’s hostel. As the weather was not that bad as compare to Day 2, we jogged to the location. Once we were there, I chose to play basketball instead as soccer already had even number of players. I and Chau Liang played a match between some locals and a Somalian student. The Somalian student was very friendly and talked to me throughout while playing. He told me that he was from Somalia and was an African Muslim and I replied back by saying which country I was from and etc. I then asked him the location for the Muslim restaurant as my Muslim classmates were having trouble adapting to the Chinese food. The student was very friendly and kind, he offered to bring us to the location. He led us there and we thanked him after that. The price was quite okay at the Muslim restaurant as I ate fried rice which cost 4RMB. After dinner, we walked back to our hostel. Midway, we noticed local students standing in huge groups and practicing English. We joined in a group and chat with each other. I truly enjoy mixing around with both the locals and foreign student. In this way, I felt that we were making full use of our 6weeks immersion programme. So hopefully we get to transfer to the girl’s hostel and stay there as the whole block is filled with foreign students.
